Battersea Park
The Battersea Park is one of those places that you must see in London. It is
one of the most famous of the London reserves. The Battersea Park is over
200 km2 in area. It is located on the south bank of river Thames. Opposite to
the Battersea Park lies Chelsea.
This park was opened in the year of 1858. The park is very popular among
tourists who come to visit London. Battersea Park was originally a part of marsh
lands along river Thames and it was later reclaimed to accommodate the growing
population of London. This process of reclaiming land has been seen in many
cities and this is done basically when the growth of the population of the city
was too much to handle for the land that was available in the city. The
Battersea Park is known to be the home ground of the Wanderers F.C. It is also
known to the first ever football pitch to host a football game that was formed
under the rules of the football association. The Wanderer F.C is also known to
be the first ever team to win the FA cup. Although the details of this
tournament are extremely vague one team that they had played against was the
Sheffield F.C. The Battersea Park is also famous for being known to host many
duels. Many duels were held against the men of honor to settle their disputes
in the park. In fact before the formation of the football club, the grounds
were predominantly known for only dueling.
When the Battersea Park was designed its designs were thought to be different
than what they are today. The designs were modified according to pressure from
some influential parties whose motives only could have included more facilities
for the royal family or other such political advantages. However, not much
change was made from the original design of the park which can be hardly said
for other creative constructions of public in London. The Battersea Park was
made into the festival gardens in the year of 1951. This was a part of the
celebration of the festival of Britain. There were many new features that were
included in the park such as Tree walk. The tree walk was a number of wooden
ways that were interconnected together and supported by the Tree house like
structure. Also later in the year s the Battersea fun fair was added to the
park that included roller coasters swings and other such rides that were meant
for family fun.
